BSI, a leading business improvement and standards company, collaborates with Secured by Design on the SBD Secure Connected Device initiative.

In a transformative collaboration, BSI and Secured by Design (SBD) join forces to advance the SBD Secure Connected Device accreditation, offering companies a strategic approach to adhere to the Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure (PSTI) Act. Enacted into law in December, the PSTI Act mandates changes that companies must implement by April 29, 2024, applying to all consumer-connectable IoT products.

Secured by Design’s Secure Connected Device accreditation scheme, developed in consultation with the Department for Science, Innovation, and Technology (DSIT), facilitates companies in demonstrating compliance with the legislation. The scheme’s IoT Device Assessment, including BSI’s Certificate of Conformity for Cyber Security for Consumer Internet of Things (IoT), identifies risk levels associated with IoT devices and suggests certification routes to meet Act requirements.

BSI, as the national standards body of the United Kingdom, provides a vital certification route for SBD’s Secure Connected Device framework. The collaboration ensures that IoT products undergo a thorough assessment against the ETSI EN 303 645 European Standard, exceeding government legislation. The accreditation includes an annual appraisal, guaranteeing ongoing compliance with evolving government requirements and cybersecurity threats.
