Ardagh Glass Packaging-Europe (AGP-Europe) takes a significant leap toward sustainability by entering into a decade-long renewable energy agreement with a prominent wind power project.

Ardagh Glass Packaging-Europe (AGP-Europe) solidifies its commitment to sustainable practices through a 10-year renewable energy agreement with a notable wind power project. This strategic move aims to supply around 40% of AGP-Europe’s power load and significantly contribute to the reduction of its scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions.

The Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) is forged with Renewable Power Capital’s (RPC) 161MW Vitberget wind project located in Sweden. With Schneider Electric’s support in project selection and PPA negotiation, AGP-Europe secures 100% of Vitberget’s capacity. The PPA is set to commence in 2026, aligning with the wind project’s operational launch.

This renewable energy deal serves as a crucial step toward AGP’s 2030 goal of transitioning to 100% renewable electricity. Moreover, it plays a fundamental role in achieving AGP’s 2030 Science Based Targets initiative for CO2 reduction. The Vitberget wind project, forming part of RPC’s 553MW cluster of wind farms in Kramfors and Sollefteå municipalities, underscores the collective commitment to advancing the Swedish land-based wind sector and contributing to the broader European industry’s decarbonization.

Martin Petersson, CEO AGP-Europe, highlights the significance of this initiative, stating, “Having recently opened our new NextGen Furnace at AGP in Obernkirchen, Germany, which could save approximately 45,000 tonnes of carbon annually, the impact of this PPA will be significant. Not only does it demonstrate our commitment to progressing our sustainability roadmap, but it also shows how we continue to minimize our greenhouse gas emissions.”
